What is osteopathy? Frequently asked questions

What is osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a manual therapy that aims to restore the body’s mobility through mobilisation and manipulation techniques.

Who can be seen?

All kinds of patients, from 0 to 100+ years old: newborns, children, pregnant people, older people and athletes.

Is the “cracking” compulsory?

Some techniques can sometimes produce a “crack”, but they are never compulsory. If you’re not comfortable with that, or you prefer another approach, I adapt fully and use alternative, equivalent techniques.

What happens at a first appointment?

We talk through why you have come and your history, then I look at your posture and movement before treating. The appointment lasts 45 minutes.

What osteopathy does not replace

Osteopathy does not replace medical care. I will refer you to a doctor whenever that is the right thing.

When should you see a doctor instead?

Fever, chest pain, loss of strength or sensation, unusually severe pain, or pain after a significant injury: see a doctor promptly or call 15 (112 from a mobile).

Missed or cancelled appointments

Out of respect for the practice’s organisation, an appointment that is missed or cancelled less than 16 hours in advance may be charged €35.

Fees and reimbursement

Consultations are not reimbursed by the French health insurance (Assurance Maladie). I do not accept the Carte Vitale: if your private health insurer (mutuelle) covers osteopathy, send the receipt (feuille de soins) yourself to your health insurance fund, which will send you a paper statement to forward to your mutuelle. Remember to write your social security number on the receipt.

Payment: cheque, cash and bank cards.
